In my previous blog, I mentioned about this sort of slogan "ARAMAI TIH". Saw this being passed around the email and thought what da..However...it's original and creative!
A parody of the 7 Rukun Negara, here I present you the 7 Rukun Aramai Tih:
Kepercayaan kepada tumpung, tajau, botol, tin & singarung
Kesetiaan kepada sup bosou, tuhau & lada
Kedaulatan kepada giliran, biris & puun
Kesopanan dalam kesengsaraan kepada kogutan, koilob & kosirit
It was boring here in school today. I only had two classes to enter and those periods were movie period (a promised came true to the kids). Planned to have them watch Larry Boy's series...but ended up with another selection which I was quite dissapointed with and I am pretty sure the kids were dissapointed too. Talking about disadvantages of being a subject teacher...!!!
I've been in Thailand long enough that I've enjoyed every public holiday there is, but when it comes to explaining what certain holiday is for, my reply usually is "I don't know." How ignorant is that? Being in Thailand and not knowing the significance of their holidays...
Visakha Bucha Day is synonym to "Vesak Day" as we call it in Malaysia. The purpose is to worship Buddha on the full moon day of the sixth lunar month. In the case of a year with an extra eighth lunar month, it falls on the full moon day of the seventh lunar month. So every year, Buddhists throughout the world gather together to worship, recollecting wisdom, purity and compassion of their god Buddha.
According to history, Buddha passed away on Tuesday, Wesak's full moon day in the year of the snake, under two Sal trees in the Sala Grove of the Mallas in Kusinara, capital of the Malla State at the age of 80. This happened of course many many years ago .
Rituals done on Visakha Bucha day had been observed continuously in Jambudavipa or India, the motherland of Buddhism, for a long time before Buddhism spread to Sri Lanka and Thailand. In Thailand, Visakha Bucha observance began during the Sukhothai period (about 700 years ago), because of the close religion relationship between Thailand and Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan monks came to propagate Buddhism in Thailand and were highly respected. Thai monks also went to study Sri Lanka for study purposes. It's believed that these monks were the one to introduce this ceremony to the king and people during that time. -- Reading source: thaicongenvancouver.com
To all who celebrates this day, Happy Visakha Bucha Day!!
While Thailand is celebrating Visakha Bucha (this year it's extra special since Thai was chosen as the host for this celebration), its neighboring country Malaysia, specifically Sabah and Sarawak are celebrating Harvest Festival! In Sabah, this festival is better known as Tadau Kaamatan, while in Sarawak they call this festival Hari Gawai.
Raised in several kampungs in Sabah, I know how Kaamatan is generally celebrated. Every year throughout May, most kadazandusun househo lds are ready with several tajau (clay jar) in-lined throughout their kitchen wall. What's inside the tajau? You bet!! The ever famous tapai or lihing (brewed rice wine). Whenever there's ramai-ramai (open house) in one of my neighborhood house, the household will have lots of authentic food, aunthentic drinks, full-volumed loud speaker connected to a (v)cd-player for activity such as karaoke, equipt with a local ever screaming DJ/VJ plus lots of "Aramai Tihhhhhhhhh" from the critical mass. Don't ask me to explain what is "aramai tih" coz I might interpret it wrongly. If you read Malay, then go to Kadus's forum.
So, Selamat menyambut hari Pesta Menuai dan hari Gawai!!
If you haven’t got a slightest idea about Nok Air, it is Thai’s low fare airline for all travelers, offering services that are the most convenient in the travel industry, while complying with the highest international safety standards. It was established in July 2004 and has been serving for almost 3 years now. Their destinations are mostly domestic and soon in June, it’ll expand its wings to Bangalore, India. Nok airline operates with two types of aircrafts: 737 - 400 with 150-156 seats and Cessna 208B Grand Caravan with only 11 seats. Go to their website to get more information. The name itself Nok, means bird, potrays the unique design of the airline’s aircrafts. Not so sure if the service is also the cheap-budget kind where you spend 50B just for a small bottle of H2O, but I won’t be bother if the flight is domestic! *_*
Wow! I almost can't believe it. eBay will launch its e-commerce site in Thailand soon. This is a partnership between eBay and Sanook, one of the leading Thai websites here. Ahhh...can't wait...can't wait! Read below from Bangkok Post breaking news:
eBay to launch Thai auction site
(dpa) - US-based eBay Inc on Monday announced plans to launch an e-commerce site in Thailand in partnership with the local portal Sanook! to cater to the estimated 16 million internet users in the kingdom.
The Thai-language site, which is expected to be launched within five to seven months under the name Sanook!eBay, will make Thailand the 38th market where eBay has a local presence.
"Thai sellers are among the most active on eBay worldwide," said Dan Neary, vice president of eBay Emerging Markets. "Through this agreement, we are combining our core competency in cross border trade with Sanook's local market expertise," he added.
"We expect the Sanook!eBay web site will quickly become a popular place for people to buy and sell a wide variety of items both within Thailand and internationally," said Torboon Puangmaha, chief executive officer of Sanook Online Limited. Sanook means "fun" in Thai.
Online auction house eBay was founded in 1995 in San Jose, California, and is today one of the world's leading e-commerce portals, incorporating well-known brands such as PayPal, Skype and Shopping.com, among others.
I don't know why I am not gratified with the new American Idol (season 5) winner Jordin Sparks. Owed to the fact that I have my favorite, plus I had the chance to watch the whole replay on TV of all the finalists, somehow I thought "Hey, what about the others? They sounded better!" Come to think of it, this is a reality show and again, there must be a winner somehow and for the rest of them, should they feel like a looser, should know that they all are winners. They have their own fans, the entertainment biz is eyeing on them, they're already stones ahead, what more can I say. I know it's kinda late to be posting about AI stuff now, but my thoughts were stimulated after reading some articles on AI hehe!
Weekend is almost over. Two more hours and It's Monday. Ahh..How I wish I don't have to get back to working routines. A dilatory day like today is good for me to get all naps I've been missing. However, school ends this week and I will have 2 full months to myself! Yay!
Before I forget, Roy and I attended the Bangkok Korean Youth Orchestra in Wattana Church, Asoke (Sukhumvit 19) yesterday evening. We thought of leaving the car at Emporium's parking lot, but no...Roy suddenly liked the idea of driving all the way to the church. We were one of the early birds and managed to hear the musicians practiced. The overall performance was great but the church was a little bit hot, my guess is the air condition not being fully utilized. All- around, it was splendid!
Amazingly, before we left the house this morning, Roy and I thought that we might be spending quite a bit on our affairs, but all the time God is good, we came home last night without spending a single cent, except for offerings! ;)
Ever bought pirated DVDs in Thailand? Ever noticed the horrible + hillarious translation butchering almost 99% of the entire movie? Well, the chart below shows it all. No wonder sometimes people who listens to the Malay/Thai/Chine se/Hindi/etc translation in church got a total different twist of the blessings compared to that who listens to standard English. Not totally a joke, but it shows how English speakers tend to think that the non-English speakers understood them perfectly well when actually they don't. Roy and I sure did have moments of hahahehes. Our favorites are no. 24 and 28. What's your fav?

"Oh mother - damn! She shot at you with her eyes closed!"
If you readers out there haven't got a clue yet as to why people here in Thailand can't access certain websites, that's because we are restricted to do so due to claim of bla bla bla...which is too complicated to explain. Maybe some of you (in Thailand) have been wondering as to why you can't access or jot down comments on blogspot, well...I'm telling you, same reason. Read excerpts below from the Bangkok Post dated May 25. As for now, don't bother to leave messages on my chatbox on the right. I can't even see it, just the plain box line and some error command!
Censorship of the Internet, which currently is being carried out by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology and the Royal Thai Police, in collaboration with the Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT) and the Telecommunications Authority, has blocked many political websites and blogs.
"The military and government are clearly worried that Thaksin may return to power and are engaging in censorship to stop this," said Mr Adams.
"But instead of resorting to draconian restrictions on free speech, the Thai authorities need to realise that their promised return to democracy requires opening the political process."
The NGO also criticised the bill on computer-related offences, which was tabled last November and quickly passed earlier this month.
Human Rights Watch cited particular concern over broad powers given to ICT officials to intercept and seize computer data, and seek court warrants to block the dissemination of information on the Internet.
Lawyers, Internet and media professionals and bloggers fear that in a tense political environment, these provisions could easily be misused by the authorities against political opponents and critics of military rule. ------------------------- ------------------------- -------------------------
Since the Sept 19 military coup that ousted former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, Thai authorities have launched a censorship campaign of the Internet that has blocked half a dozen websites deemed critical of the current government, said the human rights group in a statement out of New York.
While these websites can still be accessed from abroad, local internet surfers in Thailand will get an "Access Denied" message, and the MICT's logo saying that access to such websites has been blocked due to "inappropriate content."
"The ministry has requested Google Thailand (www.google.co.th) and Google.com to block access to its cached web pages in Thailand by which blocked pages can be accessed, as well as to block by keyword search," added HRW.
The group did not mention Thailand's recent blockage of Google's YouTube.com website after it aired clips that ridiculed Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the country's revered monarch who turns 80 this year.
The site was blocked under the country's lese majeste law that makes any criticism of the royal family a crime.
It also did not mention the more recent blocking of the entire Blogspot.com site by some Internet providers acting on the MICT's "request".
Thailand, under the current government, has also passed a law to criminalise the generation, possession, storage, dissemination of and access to prohibited information on the Internet and a Bill on Computer-Related Offenses that empowers the MICT minister to intercept and seize computer data, and seek court warrants to block the dissemination of information on the Internet if such information is considered as a threat to national security.
The two laws, which have yet to be passed, include stiff penalties such as a maximum of five-years imprisonment and fines up to 100,000 baht ($2,700).
"Freedom of expression, including offering opinions on the Internet, is an essential basis of any functioning democracy," said Adams. "Blocking critical websites resembles the behaviour of China and Vietnam. Is this the company that Thailand's leaders want to keep?"
It's all about politics!! I might not be able to blog anymore, who knows??!!
Yeah...soon all websites that we surf here will have a well-generated censo rship cover like this:
Argggh...something's bugging me again. Not that I don't want and I don't mind of being reminded, but common lah, I'm not forgetful. So please pretty please let things be, let it find its own time. Harap maklum and thank you.
I had non-stop classes that I had to teach today. How I wanted to just go home and rest since my tummy wasn't feeling that well. Blame it on the blended chillie! My Kinder students still need lots of practices to get those songs right. Laura was kinda puff off with the two chinese songs that her kids are supposed to sing for their graduation next Friday. Honestly, I am sick of it too and definitely can sense the boredom from the students of having to practice the same songs again and again.
A friend sent me this link Walking Tour and it seems to be an encouraging flash. It is Chinese but basically the translation means "Life is a journey. When we walk, we are never alone. We have families, relatives and friends all along joining us in our journey. However, some from those who are walking with you might end their journey too soon, and it might be hard for us to live with detachments, but those who are left behind, must've hated to see you turning back, get discouraged and give up on your journey. Those who are left behind do not want to see you hopeless and loss their bet. Eventhough we may not see them anymore, they're actually always there, standing at the same spot, clapping and cheering for you to finish your journey.

p/s: Remember our 3 stoogers, 1 more left since the two died of 'mundooton'. Oh well, maybe my students, who took care of them while we were away, over fed them that they got too bloated!
Roy and I decided to stay home for Sabbath today. So, had our mini church at home. Besides we had farewell fellowship lunch with other fellow East M'sians, so we needed time to prepare. I'm always happy when it comes to potluck, lots of munchy-munchy food hehe! Well, my favorite dish today was still Yum Bilis. Like the sourness taste of it plus it almost looked like the shrimp garnish (cincalok) minus the shrimp and the paste. Well, I have not tasted cincalok before, but I like the color and the look of it. HMmmm! The fellowship was nice. Lots of catching ups, recent gossips, laughter, attitudes...
Attended Jov's recital. Enjoyed the songs and she looked wonderful! Proud of her efforts and achievement.
I think I'm bloated with chocolate. Had a set of choc which consist of choc. fudge, choc. brownies, choc. coated banana, choc.chips, plus 3 different flavors of choc. moose ice-cream. Ahh...so addicted to Swensen's! Yeah, will be welcoming new zits tomorrow!!
It's like a wish come true. One of my prayers is finally answered. I was laughing hystarically, acting weirdly, grinning uncounsciou sly and singing swiftly at odd times in school. Even the brats in class 1A looked angelic to me today. I didn't pay too much attention on details but kept thinking, "Lord, who am I to deserve such blessings from you?" Then I heard Him say, "Remember Amy, I paid you with my own blood." Pheewww...
THANK YOU LORD FOR GRANTING ONE OF MY REQUESTS!
No, who said I'm pregnant (despite the preasures I get from the North, East, West, South) , I'm just qualified for one of the benefits that my school is offering.
I was marking my students' scrapbook project based on their favorite hero/heroine this morning. As I intensly went through each of the scrapbook, I came across Chanun's scrapbook. Ah, his favorite hero is Walter Elias Disney! Never knew the background of Walter Disney before, I found the scrapbook to be an self educating if I take the opportunity to read it and so I did. Half way through, I was unconciously sobbing when I read the part how Walt Disney passed away and how his brother Roy Disney couldn't get over it until his own death. After Walter Disney's death, his brother Roy was the one who took over the 'Florida Project' which is now the well-known Walt Disney World.
After giving his dedication for Walt Disney World, Roy Disney then asked Lillian Disney (Walt's wife) to join him. As the orchestra played "When You Wish Upon a Star", she steeped up tot he podium accompanied by Mickey Mouse (one of Walt's first Disney character). He then said, "Lilly, you knew all of Walt's ideas and hopes as well as anybody; what would Walt think of it [Walt Disney World]?. " I think Walt would have approved," she replied. -- taken from my student's scraps.
I especially liked this one -- A plaque at the entrance that embodies the intended spirit of Disneyland by Walt Disney: to leave reality and enter fantasy.
Never have I known about this man before but through his work of arts. When I finally get to know him, I felt like he was the one who accompanied me throughout my childhood, whenever my parents were too busy to play, whenever the nanny needs some sort of entertainment for me, a distrupter, whenever I need something fun to read...he was there all this time without me knowing...the man behind the many Disney toons and books I have grown up with is really Walt Disney. Today as I read his life, his works, his passions, his fantasy...
I made a promise to myself:
"To once a while leave reality and enter fantasy."
It's Mother's Day again. Lucky for mom to be celebrating two occassions this month. So I wanna wish her Happy Mother's Day and a very Happy Birthday today. Thank you for your unfailing love and all the things that you've lavished upon me. I don't think I could ever repay your neverending sacrifices, patients, support and love. I love ya more than words could ever describe! Thank you Lord for blessing me with such a wonderful, gorgeous MOM. *_*
Don't know why I'm attracted to this quote, somehow it relates to my past experience wadeva!
I can finally access the internet from my own notebook in school but suddenly couldn't access my home line. Hm...must have something to do with the settings. It's frustrating when you don't know what was messed around. Will try blog from home.
Wait a minute...I'm now blogging from home...means I fixed the problem!*_* Thanks to kim chee, brain boosting power!
It's Mother's Day and I just asked Roy to message our parents. The reply from my mom was: "Where do you want to treat me?" Hmmm....my brothers can do that part...hehehe!
My weekend in MC was a blast. Met and mingled with lots of friends. It was a rainy-penny graduation weekend. Thank God I got to finish my cards just in time. I couldn't have made it if it weren't the help of my two side kicks Roy and Chrystal! They were both amidst the mess, feeding me breakfast with maccaroni cheese and kid's cheese sticks. I could further give details, but nothing could explain more on the blast I had compared to these clicks. True, they speak a thousand words! Enjoy!
Chrystal, showing off her creative side. Guys, she's a super creative kid! I didn't know until then...

Tenny & Jovita. Both leaving Thailand for good. Wish them all the best as they embark new challenges.
Have you ever been in an awkward position where you and the other side didn't know how to react with each other nor know what to say to one another? Well, last night as I went to tutor one of my Korean students, Roy and I were welcomed with a bunch of family members in the house. As to not used to seeing some of them (except my student's mom and sister), I was totally clueless as to how to react and what to say. We stepped inside the house and my students were shooing her family out. I guess they have planned to go out knowing that I'll be in the house teaching. They looked at us and we looked at them. Starring at each family members walked out from the house, Roy and I just stood there as if we too were ushering them out. Funny thing was, the father walked back in, pointed to Roy and asked me "your husband?" I said "Yes." Smiling, he shook our hands, said hello and left the house again.
Argh..too tired yesterday. In the past when I was in college, Thursday was my favorite day of the week, but now that I'm working, Thursday is not a day for anticipation. Anyway, I'm just so glad that it's weekend again. Can't wait to go to MC for its graduation. Still have to do lots of stuff before I leave.
By the way, here are several jokes I read today from Club House:
Q: What did one potato chip say to the other? A:"Let's take a dip."
Q: Why did the clock go to the principal's office? A: For "tocking" too much.
Q: What did the hamburger say to the cook? A: "Well done."
Q: Why did the bike go to the psychologist? A: It had cycle-logical problems!
I should be running to class now. But I checked my mail and got this joke forwarded by Jov. Just can't keep laugher to myself...hehe..hm...I felt that I've read this before...anyhow it still made me laugh hystarically!
Presenting <<< A Letter From India >>>
My dear Jagjit, I am in a well here and hoping you are also in a well there. I'm writing this letter slowly, because I know you cannot read fast. We are not living where we did when you left home. Your dad read in the newspaper that most accidents happen 20 miles from home, so we moved 20 miles.
I am not able to send the address, as the last Sardar who stayed here took the house numbers with them for their new house so they would not have to change their address. Hopefully by next week we will be able to take our earlier address plate here, and that our address will remain same too.
This place is really nice. It even has a washing machine, situated right above the toilet. But I'm not sure it works too well. Last week I put in 3 shirts, pulled the chain, and haven't seen them since.
The weather here isn't too bad. It rained only twice last week. The first time it rained for 3 days and second time for 4 days.
The coat you wanted me to send you, your Aunt said it would be a little too heavy to send in the mail with all the metal buttons, so we cut them off and put them in the pocket.
Your father has another job. He has 500 men under him. He is cutting the grass at the cemetery.
By the way, I took Bahu to our club's poolside. The manager is Badmash. He told her that two piece swimming suit is not allowed in his club. We were confused as to which piece we should remove?
Your sister had a baby this morning. I haven't found out whether it is a girl or a boy, so I don't know whether you are an Aunt or Uncle.
Your uncle, Jetinder fell in the nearby toddy distillery. Some men tried to pull him out, but he fought them off bravely and drowned. We cremated him and he burned for three days.
Your best friend, Balwinder, is no more. He died trying to fulfill his father's last wishes. His father had wished to be buried in the sea after he died. And your friend died while in the process of digging a grave for his father.
There isn't much more news this time. Nothing much has happened.
Love, Mom.
P.S . : Jagjit, I was going to send you some money but by the time I realized, I had already sealed off this letter.
Gotta speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeed for class. Later!
Finally I made it to one of the box-office movie yesterday. Choices, choices, choices. That's what I learned from Spidey! The lessons in this movie (Spiderman 3) have an undeniable spiritual tone. Don't wanna give it away, but maybe some thoughts won't hurt. Spidey's Aunt May has never failed to inspire me with her anecdotes. I love how she described what she saw, the glitter/shimmer of her proposal ring, and said " I thought it was the sun!" The beauty of this movie is that it shadows real life. We are given the freedom to make choices and there are always second chances. Somehow the verse in Gen 4:7 speaks strongly while watching this movie. Satan will always find ways to destroy us, but the choice is in our hands whether to give in or not. The only way to escape sin is to acknowledge the One who lived a sinless life. Eh...am not preaching am I?? Other things, the theatre was such a freezer!
Got my hair pampered. Not that I want to, but I got this promotion with good bargains and I didn't want to waste it. Went to my usual saloon. Met with my hair stylist and it happened that he has a trainee under his care. So guess what? This amatuer stylist (not even close) handled the washing, the treatment, half of the straightening and part of the blow dry on me with my hairstylist checking in between. Poor newbie, he was criticized the whole time but I don't think he screwd up big, just that he was nervous and God knows how many healthy strands were pulled off from my scalp when he did the straitening. Maybe if I were in his shoe, I would definitely pee on the spot being nervous. Not easy handling other people's skull! ;)
Sabbath was well-spent. Rejuvenated from the sermon about "Sabbath" and being at home was great. Had chips while spending some quiet moments talking with my housemate. The weather was windy with some dark clouds over. Nevertheless, I like it. Good time to take naps. Hmmm....it rained this evening and it smelled so much like a forest and I can imagine being amidst trees and creeping plants. Ah...how I miss camping, hiking, and doing those fun stuff! Reminds me of being a Science major...when things were so much better, had loads of trips, camps, etc. I so wanna visit this place: Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City, MI. Reason, check it out for yourself!
J Cameron wrote in The Artist's Way: How do you know if you are creatively blocked? Jealousy is an excellent clue. Do you tell yourself, "I could do that, if only..." Do you tell yourself that if only you took your creative potential seriously, you might:
Stop telling yourself, "It's too late."
Stop waiting until you make enough money to do something you'd really love.
Stop telling yourself, "It's just my ego" whenever you yearn for a more creative life.
Stop telling yourself that dreams don't matter, that they are only dreams and that you should be more sensible.
Stop fearing that your family and friends would think you crazy.
Stop telling yourself that creativity is a luxury and that you should be grateful for what you've got.
I'm head over heels with this book I'm currently reading. Wish it was as thick as Harry Potter! Lots of good insights and a great mind-opener.
It's late but my eyes are still wide open. Chatted with mom and brothers tonight. We were all in one conference box and there were times I felt left out in the conversation. So was typing all this nonsense just to get their attention...what prodigal! Ander mentioned that the new church is finally up and it looked like to him the color will be somewhat pink! "PINKKKKKKK??" I said. Then mom suddenly remembered that pink does not equal the daughter, she lightened the tone a little bit by saying "it's lighttttttttt pink!" Whatever, but I heard there will be LCD projector, piano (ooh...aah...), and eight microphones + stands. Hm...*tapping fingers*
This morning I was so indulged in this book that I'm currently reading that I forgot to complete some things. Thankfully, it's Coronation day this coming Monday so I'll be having sort of a long weekend. Need to complete scrap-booking activity, wada...wada...wadi...a lot to accomplish but too little time. Wish I could have another long vacation! Graduation week is coming up. Not only for MC but our school. Children are performing, I really need to get their heads and b*tts swinging...or else they'll be as stiff as sticks! Glad that they liked the selection of songs I chose, "Lazy Worm" and "Toy Song". I know, not among the best titles, and part of the "Lazy Worm" actions is to point to the opposite audience and say Ni Shi Lan Duo Chong (You're a lazy worm...la..di..da..), but hey, if they enjoy it, why not!
Often times I find myself tired from being the tech support of my students. Instead of giving me the answers, they gave me back the questions. Gggggrrrrhhh!!!
Read this on MySpace. True, I'm really horrified everytime my car gets thirsty nowadays!
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all myspace members are asked to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the myspace network, and the average car takes about 20 to 30 dollars to fill up.
If all myspace members did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,200,000,000.00 out of the oil companys pockets for just one day!
So please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
If this works it will make headlines & history!!!
If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) repost this bulletin repost it with "Don't pump gas on May 15th!"
