Desperate Blog Wife
05.27.08 (11:32 pm)   [edit]

The reason why I was kept from blogging is this:

Desperate Housewives!

And Hobbit and I just finished...

<<Season 1>>

and now moving to season 2.

Another reason for not being able to blog is the internet connection in school.

It's darn slow, slow, slow!

School is going to end in less than 3 days so...I so need to get some pampering and enjoy filling my own wine racks at home!

...need to keep up blogging...

...need to keep up blogging...

*&&^%%$ washing machine. Wanted to do the laundry but the faucets were busted!

Waiting for the plumber now...

Ah...while surfing...

I found this clip and it's really funny. The issue is about Pulau Batu Putih and the hilarious reason why the island was announced as Singapore's.

05.24.08 (3:11 pm)   [edit]

My husband puts me on home-church today. So after waking up I fixed maself breakfast and took a cold shower and put maself on internet church. Well, one funny not nuphedrine when I was trying to put myself on some sermon was this statement from a site...

Born and raised as SDA believer, it is hard not to see things happening around us nowadays as a sign of the end of days. Knowing the fact, it is funny how some believers still endlessly pray for God to postpone what obviously is in His plan before His second return.

Someone sent me a forwarded sms two months ago and the message stated this in Malay:

My immediate thought was "okay...how and when shall we do it?" It was late at night when we got the message and we thought oh well, let us just think about it the next day. HUNGER was the first thing that struck our minds in the morning, correct?? LOL! So I told Hobbit to go and prepare something for breakfast. As I was lazying in bed and thinking about whether to fast or not to, I thought hey! If believers think that they can alter this BIG prophecy plan, they could obviously pray and alter anything! Strange as it seemed. So I decided to just go ahead with my breakfast while Hobbit has it all over his face the I-am-so-not-going-to-fast sign and maybe discuss the matter over with my parents on the chat room that night. Long story short, my dad told me that he thought the idea is totally crazy and should be ignored. In fact dad said "I actually need God to come right now because we believers have been waiting for too long!" He told me that half of the church thought the idea was to be taken seriously and actually fasted for 3 days!

The Bible says:

"... I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done ..." (Isaiah 46:9-10).

Ptui One
05.21.08 (1:24 am)   [edit]
I hate being bossed around, especially by the same person again and again. Oh my lcd monitor ...Not only Ptui had bossed around Hobbit and I but also other friends. We were silly enough to put up with all Ptui's parently biiboos and now look how spoiled Ptui has become? Believe me, we are not the only one feeling this way (weird that we thought we were) but dozens of friends had admitted to Ptui being bossy! Ptui just don't care be it young, old, sick, healthy... Ptui's would *&^% around with whoever. Arrrghhhh...I'm just filled with anger right now. For goodness sake, why were the other friends being too "Aye-aye Ptui" all the time yet they hated it?? I don't understand. Could someone just tell me?? HUH! This is just the right place to vent! Don't care who's reading this...all my best buddies are all thousands of kilometers away from me...Hobbit is obviously mad too that we would be better off help pull out each other's hair..Other friends are complaining too but they bowed to it as if Ptui holds the remote controls to their lives. Ptui obviously thinks that people only has Ptui to please and not thinking deep enough how others felt about Ptui's unpleasant attitude. Ptui, Ptui, Ptui! I am angry! You make me angry. You seriously have no idea what we the dumbs have to put up with every time you make us your domestic goat! I Quit! No..make that a WE.
No, faithful readers. Not you. I love you...Trust me.

On the Screen
05.19.08 (8:09 pm)   [edit]

Well well let me finger-count how many movies I've watched different day throughout this long weekend...

1. The Forbidden Kingdom (2008)

2. Enchanted (2007)

3. Indian movie: Bombay to Bangkok (2008)

4. What Happened in Vegas (2008)

5. From the Barbie collection: Mariposa and her Butterfly Fairy Friends (2008)

6. Indian move: Love Song (2008)

7. Guess Who (2005)

8. Gossip Girls (2008) ep. 14, 15, 16, 17

My head is just spinning right now. All my imaginations are filled with scenes from these movies! I'm not going to talk about each of them for I suck in giving reviews. Yet those that I really enjoyed is of course Gossip Girls...totally totally can't wait for the next eps, then of course one rare combination in The Forbidden Kingdom...Jacky and Jet...Then What Happened in Vegas and Guess Who...Ashton Kutcher! Why is he always the boyfriend?? He's funny...Had a good heehaas! Oh...the movies are just showing Juno...liked some of the songs in it...apart from that...Juno is Juno! Hahaha!

I want to put some photos up from the weekend but the connection due to heavy rain is on and off. It might be that my Cat5e Keystone jack is not functioning well...

What? You call me online freak? Oh...maybe because I spend hours and hours admiring websites like these: lesailes, handcraft, elle decoration, design sponge, decor8 (thanks Dee/*hugs*), smashing magazine, missweblash, and endlessly reading on my feeds?? THANK YOU *curtsies*

Arrrgghh! This connection sucks big time. Guess I have to say bye like Dr. M bid UMNO today. Till the connection is up and kicking...

TGIF Tomorrow
05.15.08 (8:47 pm)   [edit]

A new browser is up. Flock is really similar to Firefox just that it has tons of stuff on it that is different. If you frequent Pownce, Digg, Facebook and Twitter, you would probably find this handy. I haven't really fiddle with it but from the look of it it is really cool! Go check it out because I think the features are quite cool!

What is 'ikan kembung' in English?

I don't know what this fish is called in English but today I cooked curry ikan kembung with slices of mangoes. When I flip-flop the fish, the head started to come off. Home cooking...*slurping back saliva*!

I had a shock of a lifetime while doing my grocery shopping this morning. Rice hiked twice as much! This is crazy!!! I wasn't taking it seriously when I read it on the news but yes now I believe. From now on I make sure I swallow every single pieces of rice on my plate. The Thai government actually urged the country to eat less now that this shortage spelled problems but for some, they actually can forget about their phentermine!

note to self: Finally spring cleaned the kitchen today!

Cold Dinner
05.14.08 (7:38 am)   [edit]
from dkimages.com

The electricity was cut off when we reached home yesterday evening and so we were in total darkness for almost 3 hours. We have planned on cooking,  washing and using the microwave. None of them were possible without electricity. Since starvation got a good hold on me, I went ahead and gobbled up the Chinese tofu dish I brought home. Hobbit just wished he was in some reno hotels in times like this.

It was getting dark and Hobbit was struck by hunger too. So he joined me by putting out cold rice from the refrigerator and both of us munched away! I have always hated food being served cold. Cold rice?? Ask Hobbit. He finished up everything that was left in the container from our dinner the previous night. While we were "pretending" to enjoy our cold dinner and the sky was getting dark, Hobbit blurted out how pathetic it can be for us to be in this kind of situation. With big eyes I starred at him and carefully narrated a story that I have just read yesterday. Here it is...

***
Have you ever, at any one time, had the feeling that life is bad, real bad, and you wish you were in another situation?

You find life make things difficult for you, work sucks, life sucks, everything seems to go wrong…

Read the following story… it may change your views about life:

After a conversation with one of my friends, he told me despite taking 2 jobs, he brings back barely above 1K per month, he is happy as he is.

I wonder how he can be as happy as he is considering he has to skimp his life with the low pay to support a pair of old parents, in-laws, a wife, 2 daughters and the many bills of a household.

He explained that it was through one incident that he saw in India that happened a few years ago when he was really feeling low and touring India after a major setback.

He said that right in front of his very eyes he saw an Indian mother chop off her child’s right hand with a chopper. The helplessness in the mother’s eyes, the scream of pain from the innocent 4-year-old child haunted him until today.

You may ask why did the mother do so; had the child been naughty, had the child’s hand been infected?? No, it was done for two simple words —-TO BEG!

The desperate mother deliberately caused the child to be handicapped so that the child could go out to the streets to beg.

Taken aback by the scene, he dropped a piece of bread he was eating half-way. And almost instantly, a flock 5 or 6 children swamped towards this small piece of bread which was covered with sand, robbing bits from one another. The natural reaction of hunger.

Stricken by the happenings, he instructed his guide to drive him to the nearest bakery. He arrived at two bakeries and bought every single loaf of bread he found in the bakeries. The owner was dumbfounded but willingly sold everything. He spent less than $100 to obtain about 400 loaves of bread (this is less than $0..25 per loaf) and spent another $100 to get daily necessities.

Off he went in the truck full of bread into the streets. As he distributed the bread and necessities to the children (mostly handicapped) and a few adults, he received cheers and bows from these unfortunate. For the first time in his life he wondered how people can give up their dignity for a loaf of bread which cost less than $0.25.

He began to tell himself how fortunate he is. How fortunate he is to be able to have a complete body, have a job! , have a family, have the chance to complain what food is nice and what isn’t nice, have the chance to be clothed, have the many things that these people in front of him are deprived of…

Now I begin to think and feel it, too! Was my life really that bad?
Perhaps… no, I should not feel bad at all… What about you? Maybe the next time you think you are, think about the child who lost one hand to beg on the streets.

“Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, it is the realization of how much you already have.”

When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don’t see the one which has been opened for us.

It’s true that we don’t know what we’ve got until we lose it, but it’s also true that! we don’t know what we’ve been missing until it arrives.

The happiest of people don’t necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can’t go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

***

I don't know exactly how many people out there survive with no choice but to eat cold food everyday. I don't know how many people out there starve and go without food for several days or even months.  I do know there are many, especially among the Cyclone Nargis victims who don't even have food to eat. I read that by the time the military distributed all the food that came from other country, the food were no longer fit for humans nor animals. How insulting and inhuman that is!

When the story was over, both of us thought that we would have missed the most meaningful dinner if it wasn't for the cut off. I just thank God for teaching us another powerful lesson by just sitting through a rare cold dinner yesterday.

Cabrios at Seacon
05.13.08 (11:57 pm)   [edit]

Last week we went to Seacon and were surprised to see another Cabriolet show apart from that we've seen in Central World. This time most of the vintage belongs to individuals who have either kept or owns the car for almost a decade long. Thus it is no surprise to see them mending their babies as long as the show lasted. Let's start counting...

Cadillac grills, Hansa, Corvet, Ford Roadster, Checker Cab...

*The oldest on the display...

*Random pictures. Mr Bean's midget is showing off too!

But what really captured Hobbit's and my attention was none other than this red Chevro Corvet! I want one too!

Graduation Weekend
05.13.08 (8:35 pm)   [edit]
We were in for the graduation weekend last week. Hobbit and I are all happy for friends that finally made it and were so eager to face the real world. When I met and talked to some of them about their feelings to have made it this far, they said as if echoing my often said phrase "It's like a whole burden has just been taken away" from them and that some of them can finally have the freedom to do what they long to do. Some of them expressed their worries of not being able to get the job that they have been dreaming of and for some, they are not afraid of jumping into something (a job) that they never thought they would be doing. Well, these things are part of the journey in life and I am sure with God's help nothing is impossible for these graduands.

God is good.

Well, it is nice to say it again and again that God is good because His unending love for each one of us is just uncomprehendible.

Our MC graduation weekend was supposed to be a one-day trip. Traveling from Bangkok to ML was smooth, not until we were less than a kilometer away from MC that our car was all heated up and halted right after swerving left into a junction. God must've sent Angels to hold the engine until we made that turn. Thank God nothing has to be messed up on car insurance. Imagine if the car broke down while we were at the motorway or along Bkk-ML highway. It could've been a different story altogether.

Thank God.

If it weren't for our Samaritanian friends, help would probably arrive after a few dreaded phone calls and put-ups thick faces. I was wrong thinking that there were no longer any good samaritans out there. Many cars big and small, old and new passed by and kept their thoughts in their head about what has gone wrong with our car. None dared to stop for a courtesy "why?" or "need help?" Well, one did. It surprised us. These guys were driving a small white shabby truck that looked like it has went through lots of earth work and heavy duty lifts. The two men in it weren't dressed up as if heading to church but looked ready for another long toil at the farm/garden. "What's wrong? Need help?" Which the two men who were with me replied "Nothing. It's okay!" And the truck slowly drove off.

"That's exactly a sermon for us today!"

I agreed.

The annual graduation evening potluck was graded as "less-happening" ; compared to the past years. It was expected--due to the inexpected. Nevertheless, we managed to pull it off quite well. Thanks to those who came, cooked, ate, washed and cleaned. A reason to stay overnight and make do with "side-B"!

Congratulations Graduands!

Sane Sikit
05.08.08 (3:45 pm)   [edit]

*Very well that I was forgotten in the 2008-2009 line up. Apologies accepted!

It's like a load of burden had left when I completed one of my major papers last Monday. I was living a life like a malay idiom that goes "makan tak kenyang, mandi tak basah, tidur tak lena...(eat but not full, shower but not wet, sleep but not sound)" My bed was crowded with papers, books, laptop, boosters, chocolate wrappers, paper clips, Babb, Hobbit...Goodness, everything drove me crazy! My eyes saw everything with the tag "STRESS". Nothing else mattered but to finish that head-wrecker paper!

No, it's not for graduation.

It's for my SANITY!!!

So I have been enjoying my days after with luxury sleep. Even my Hobbit commented that I can reeaally sleep.

Well, after the RPK hot news, I have been squinting my eyes on my laptop moving from left to right following each and every details of how and when and why and all the pitty-patty written online. The wife wrote this. Kesian oso lah. Bah, let's wait for October. Can't wait to see new stunts from the government. I blame NI for getting me into reading politics!

What's wrong with the government in Myanmar? You want all your citizens to die is it? If you want to rule, don't be so blardy selfish! At least approve the visas for those who volunteered to help. People offer help you don't want??

Note: Malaysians, MAS is offering "zero-ringgit" ala-ala AirAsia now. Not so good news for me though. Go check it out if you are interested in domestic flight and be careful of this acne treatment website.

How Can I Know God's Will?
05.04.08 (9:32 am)   [edit]
By Daniel Darling
There is an old story preachers tell about a man trapped on the top of his house during a flood or hurricane or tsunami (insert your own natural disaster). The water is swiftly rising. As this man sits on his roof, fearful of being swept away by the current, he cries out to God, “God please deliver me.”

A few moments later, a farmer friend arrives with his boat. “Hey, friend, want a ride to safety?” he asks.

“No,” replies the man on top of his house. “God is going to deliver me.”

An hour later, the water is up to the gutters. A voluntary rescue person comes by on his yellow raft. “Hey, let’s get you off of there—and on to safety,” he yells.

But the man on top of his house refuses to go. “God is going to deliver me.”

Another hour passes and now the water is halfway up the roof. Roof Man is now on top of his chimney, nervously looking down at certain death and destruction.

Fortunately, a Red Cross volunteer swings by in a canoe and offers to ride Roof Man to safety. But Roof Man refuses. “No, God is going to deliver me.”

A couple of hours pass by and the water sweeps over the top of Roof Man’s house. He is carried away by the current and drowns. When he gets to Heaven, he meets Jesus and says, “I though you were going to deliver me.”

Jesus looks down at Roof Man and says, “I sent a boat, an inflatable raft, and a canoe—but you refused each one.”

We’ve all heard this story and every time we hear it, we laugh, right? But quite often this is the story of our attempts to discern God’s will.

I can’t tell you how many college students who tell me, “I just want to do God’s will.”

This is good. I wish more young people would surrender themselves to God’s plan for their lives.

But quite often those well-meaning college students or teenagers or even young married folks act as if God’s will is some sort of vague, hazy thing. A vapor that can’t be grasped. It’s almost as if they want God’s Will, but don’t every think they’ll have a shot at actually finding it.

It really doesn’t have to be this way. Here are two truths that should change the way we think about God’s will.

(1) It is Satan who wants us to be confused, directionless, and ineffective.

(2) It is God who has a preordained plan for us, who has given us specific steps, and who wants to see our lives matter.

So, knowing those truths, how do we wrap our arms around that seemingly mysterious thing called, “God’s will?” Here are four concrete ways in which God speaks to us:

1. God speaks through circumstances.

Its funny, Christians routinely blast atheists and atheism, but we often act as if there is no God. We complain about the uncontrollable events in our lives as if we’re just here by chance, left to sort life out on our own.

But life isn’t dog-eat-dog. God is in charge of this world. God is in charge of our little world. And the events that He allows—getting fired from a job, meeting a future mate, getting rebuked by a pastor or Christian leader, the family we were born into, the town in which we live, the skill sets, talents, and gifts we possess—are all part of God’s divine blueprint for our success.

None of this happens by chance. God is not up in Heaven pounding his fist against his head saying, “Whoops, I really messed up with Dan.” No, God didn’t mess up. God didn’t’ make a mistake. God isn’t ever caught by surprise.

So you can do one of two things. You can continue to live as the world lives. You can stick to the motto, “Life is random, you get out of it what you make of it, I can’t help the way I am.” Or you can embrace your life—your life right now—as God’s will.

Yes, what happens to you that’s out of your control is God’s will for your life.

2. God speaks through opportunities.

Remember the guy with the boat? God presented to him opportunities and he refused them. A long time ago I had a friend who constantly agonized over every decision or every opportunity and wondered, “Is this God’s will?”

Meanwhile, God presented him opportunity after opportunity. He wanted to get married, but no girl was good enough. Oh, but he didn’t say that. He said really good spiritual things like, “It’s not God’s will.” Oh yeah? Did you talk to anybody about it? Did you pray about it? Did you ever consider that this could be an opportunity to explore?

And on and on it went with this guy. A dozen ministry and job opportunities were presented, but he never pursued any of them. He hemmed, hawed, quoted a lot of Scripture verses, but never made a move.

Ten years later I had lunch with him. And even though he has held down a job and even gotten married (finally found Miss Right), he is still in that pondering, hemming and hawing stage. I fear that at the end of his life he’ll be like Roof Man and God will say, “I brought along this opportunity and that opportunity and you refused to take them.”

God works through open doors and opportunities. It’s that simple. These are not just “lucky” occurrences. If you want to do God’s will, do as one of my Bible College professors used to say, “Go. Do something and God will direct you.”

3. God Speaks Through Spiritual Counselors and Mentors

This is where most of us slip up. We live a lone-ranger Christianity and refuse to listen to wise spiritual counselors. I believe that God’s plan for the Christian in this age is through the local church. Every believer should not only be a part of a local church, but should voluntarily put himself under the accountability of that church.

Now, for young people, this is a tough swallow. Why should I let any pastor or anybody control my life? But the truth is this. The Bible talks over and over about the value of wisdom. Wisdom is the ability to make good decisions, spiritual decisions, and God-honoring decisions.

But young people don’t have a lot of wisdom. That’s why we need to sit at the feet of pastors, trusted lay-leaders, parents, mentors, etc. Every major decision I have ever made in my life I have done with the approval and consent of my pastor. Why? I trust my pastor. He’s a man whom God has sovereignly put into my life to help guide me.

And you know what? I’ve been blessed every time. There have been many moments when I have had what I thought was a really good idea. But people I trust, who have more spiritual wisdom than I do, raised questions. They said, “Hmm, I’m not sure this is a good idea and here is why.”

You too have spiritual mentors in your life—if you don’t, find some in your church. Seek their wisdom. Seek their accountability. Seek their unbiased opinion.

A wise person will take such advice as God speaking to them. That is God’s will.

4. God's Will is Revealed in God's Word.

How basic, but how true. The fact of the matter is this: 99 percet of what God wants to you to do in your life is spelled out in His Word. And here’s a news flash for you. God is not going to mysteriously lead you to do something that contradicts His Word.

Ask yourself these questions. How much of God’s revealed Word are you following now?

Are you faithfully seeking Him on a daily basis through Bible study and prayer?
Are you active in ministry at a Bible-believing church?
Are you sharing your faith?
Are you doing your best to live apart from sin?
Are you faithful to your spouse?
Are you seeking satisfaction in Christ instead of the world?

These are just a few of many areas where the Bible touches our lives, where God’s Word is revealed to us in simple, concrete, direct language. And you and I can’t escape it.

Quite often, Christians try to blend their own sinful lifestyles with the teachings of Scripture and then they wonder why they can’t ever seem to discover “God’s will for their lives.” But unconfessed sin keeps you from closeness to God.

It’s not that God expects us to be perfect. But are you honestly living for him, seeking him, and doing your best to obey his commandments?

If so, guess what, pinch yourself, you’re in God’s will.

3gb
05.02.08 (6:50 pm)   [edit]

Do you still remember the wave that hit the internet two years ago? I remembered very well because whenever I checked my email account there would always be two to three person who would send you invitations to all sorts of community group websites and sometimes if I passed the email too long without opening it, several reminders saying something like "reminder--so and so had invited you to join abc online community group...bla bla!" The first community group website I joined was Friendster and the rest followed. I remembered being so excited since what else is the fastest way to get connected to long lost friends if not through websites such as this? Friendster back then didn't have much in terms of features but the personal pages and the testimonies and the sort were quite enough to keep people coming back to want to know who left testimonies on their page.

That was the wave two years ago. Nowadays community group websites have grown into a full fledge family home. It is almost or at least to some it is a virtual home where everything you do is widget-convertible just like this one hit community pages no other than Facebook. You could do almost everything virtually for example slapping your friend, hugging your friend and even bigger, gatherings and riots!

Today I discovered 3gb. 3gb has the same concept such as other community websites but differ in certain areas. Still you could upload photos, blog, be in a group or form a group, listen to mp3s and so on. So far it has 654 members and 53 blog entries. My guess is that not many people know about this communities yet or maybe some people like myself prefer to just join in one or two of them as to minimize confusions. Anyway, if anyone is interested, feel free to sign in and browse through. Otherwise just skip it if you think enough is enough! :)
